In a move mirroring Punjab’s initiative, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and the district administration of Islamabad have announced reductions in the price of roti, aiming to alleviate financial burdens on citizens.

KP’s Food Minister Zahir Shah disclosed the government’s decision, fixing the price of a 100-gram roti at Rs. 15 and a 120-gram roti at Rs. 30. Emphasizing the government’s dedication to public welfare, the minister reaffirmed the province’s commitment to implementing measures that benefit the populace.

Similarly, the district administration of Islamabad has implemented a price reduction for roti and naan within the federal capital. According to the latest notification, the revised prices stand at Rs. 16 for roti and Rs. 20 for naan, offering relief to consumers.

This decision follows Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s earlier announcement of reduced roti prices across the province. Under the new regulations, a 100-gram roti is priced at Rs. 16, while a 120-gram roti costs Rs. 20, aligning with efforts to address affordability concerns.

However, amidst these adjustments, controversy arose in Rawalpindi as the police arrested Shafiq Qureshi, the Central President of the Pakistan Naanbai Association. Qureshi’s arrest came after he refused to comply with a notification from the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner regarding roti price reductions.

The Naanbai Association denounced the arrests, alleging that raids were conducted at the residences of other officials. Additionally, they announced plans to challenge Qureshi’s arrest in the Lahore High Court, highlighting the tensions surrounding the enforcement of price regulations.
