President Alvi stresses need for upgrading Pakistan’s IT sector

President Dr. Arif Alvi, while speaking to a delegation of Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Tuesday said that the IT sector must capitalize on the government’s policies.

According to Radio Pakistan, the president, while stressing the need for development of the said sector, said that businesses need to collaborate with academia to have a market-driven approach.

It is worth mentioning here that the government has repeatedly stressed the need for keeping up with the pace of technological changes across the world.

Earlier this year, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, while addressing a ceremony related to the government’s skill-based training program, urged the Pakistani youth to keep up with technological changes, highlighting its importance for the country to move towards progress, prosperity and development.

He stressed the importance of “progressive” thoughts and urged the country’s youth to learn skills that could help them meet the requirements of a changing world since distinctions between people are made on their skillset. He also emphasized the need for revamping institutions to help them meet the needs and standards of the modern world.

Later, President Alvi, while speaking at a briefing at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in Islamabad, highlighted the global shift to intellectual development of human resources, and said that Pakistan’s progress depends on linkages between academia and industries. He added that Pakistan needs to adopt modern strategies in terms of development. Highlighting the potential of the information technology sector, he called for its evolution for the country’s economic and scientific development.

Last week, while addressing an event held to inaugurate a STEM program in the federal capital, the president termed education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as the need of the hour, and urged the parents and teachers to encourage students in these fields.

He also spoke about the importance of mathematics, which he mentioned is the foundation of logic, and linked STEM education with the country’s progress.

On Tuesday, President Alvi highlighted the need for upgrading the standards of the country’s IT sector while focusing on data security. He also stressed the need for narrowing the gap between production and capacity.
