Dasu Dam to contribute 2,160MW of electricity to national grid after completion of phase one in 2025

Asserting the relationship between costly electricity and inflation, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said that hydropower generation should have been prioritized in Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported.

Last month, the prime minister launched the Indus Bond, the country’s first-ever green bond to raise $500 million for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams. Once completed, they would add 10,000MW of clean energy to the national grid.

On Friday, the premier visited the site of Dasu Dam, where he met the workers and appreciated their efforts on the project.

Once the phase one of the project is completed in 2025, it would contribute 2,160MW to the national grid. Upon completion of the second phase in 2029, the capacity would increase to 4,320MW.

Prime Minister Imran said that the dam would help promote industrialization in the country and reduce inflation. He added that industrialization would help generate wealth in the country.

It is worth mentioning here that the government plans to construct 10 small and large dams by 2028 to ensure interrupted power supply and food security.
