Importers of used cars up to 1,800cc will be exempt from duty as well

Mobile phone users in Pakistan have reason to celebrate as the government has decided to decrease regulatory duties on the import of mobile phones.

The tariff policy board has declined to extend the two Statutory Regulatory Orders (SROs) that imposed tariffs, leading to their expiry on March 31.

As a result of the government’s decision, imported mobile phone prices have declined by 25%, making them much more affordable for consumers.

According to reports, the removal of regulatory duties has made mobile phones 25% cheaper. For instance, a mobile phone that previously cost Rs30,000 is now priced at Rs22,500 after the removal of regulatory duties. This reduction in prices has made mobile phones more accessible to a wider range of consumers, including those who previously found them too expensive.

Furthermore, the government’s decision to eliminate the tax has not only made mobile phones cheaper, but it has also led to an increase in demand for non-PTA (Pakistan Telecom Authority) phones. This is because the high prices of imported phones had made locally manufactured phones more expensive, causing an increase in demand for non-PTA phones.

The removal of regulatory duties has led to a reduction in the regulatory duty on mobile phones, while importers of used cars up to 1,800cc will be completely exempt.
